This year we had our first FTC and FLL meeting. The FLL and FTC voted for the Stem Robotics officers, watched competition videos, and talked about the res of the year.
This year the Stem Robotics introduce the 6th graders to FLL. The 6th graders did challenges to test their teamwork skills, FTC members talked to the 6th graders and told them what competition life is like. After the tryouts FTC started setting up their field.
The FTC team leaders held a summer camp for the incoming STEM 6th graders. These incoming 6th graders learned about FLL and what competition life is like. It was held from Monday, July 31, 2017- Thursday, August 3, 2017.
Our robotics club will be hosting our Battle of The Bricks competition! It is open to NEISD students in elementary 2nd through 5th grade! Registration Opens Soon!
The first league meet of the 2016-2017 season occurred today. Teams from all over the North East San Antonio League meet. Granted it was only a skirmish and the points gained didn't count for anything. It was simply a practice for teams that wanted to attend. We provided matches and inspection for the teams.
FTC and FLL kick off again! The new 6th grade robotics members consist of 2 new team! Team 14567 and team 14567. Our old FLL team now joined the the FTC group. Naturally our FTC team was to huge so we split into team 7993 and team 11171. Team 7993 is obviously VOLT while team 11171 is now team CHARGE.
On September 6 the STEM Robotics team held their FLL tryouts mostly for the new 6th graders. Everyone in STEM was available to tryout. Those who attended performed multiple team building exercises to test their ability to work well with others. The first test was to save Fred. Fred was a gummy worm (person) on top of a paper cup faced upside down (sinking boat) with a lifesaver underneath. Their challenge was to get the lifesaver from under the boat and onto Fred without letting Fred fall into the water. Also they weren't allowed to touch anything with their hands. they did everything with 4 paperclips. The next challenge was to cbuild multiple design's with paper cups. Once again not allowed to touch the cups. they had 4 pieces of twine and a rubber band to move the cups with. At the end of the tryouts their parents were given their application form.
The officers and Coaches met to discuss plans for recruiting new members. They also discussed accepting members who had previously quit. They decided that previously "removed" members should be given a chance, but if no improvements are seen they will be removed.
Our coaches along with three of our team members attended FLL coach training for new FLL coaches. Two members explained the FLL competition board. The coaches and the other member helped new coaches with the presentation portion of FLL.
